Pottery Northwest invites artists to submit work for our inaugural exhibition in our new South Lake Union space. This community group show launches our year-long theme, Building Belonging, which considers how we actively create spaces of connection, care, and inclusion, through both material practice and shared experience.

This first exhibition centers on the idea of home.

Home can be a structure, a place, a body, a memory, or a community. It can be something inherited, something built, something longed for, or something in flux. For some, home is a site of comfort and grounding; for others, it is complicated, fragmented, or continually redefined.

We invite artists to reflect on questions such as:

  • What does home mean to you?

  • Where—and with whom—do you feel a sense of belonging?

  • How is home constructed, maintained, or disrupted?

  • What does it mean to build home in a time of personal or collective transition?

Submissions may explore home as both physical space (architecture, shelter, domestic environments) and metaphorical space (identity, culture, relationships, community). We welcome a wide range of perspectives and encourage work that engages with the complexities of belonging.

This exhibition is ceramics-focused. Functional wares are as welcome as sculptural work, and we encourage a wide range of approaches, from utilitarian objects to conceptual and sculpture-based practices. Multimedia works are eligible so long as ceramic material is a central component.

We are also committed to presenting a range of price points, with the goal of making collecting and engaging with ceramic work accessible to a broad audience. Artists are encouraged to submit work that reflects a diversity of scales, formats, and price ranges.

Artists may submit 1–5 works for consideration. Proposals for unrealized work are welcome; however, submissions must clearly demonstrate how the concept relates to the exhibition theme and be feasible within the exhibition timeline. Accepted proposals are expected to be completed as described—failure to realize the work as proposed may result in exclusion from the exhibition.

This exhibition reflects Pottery Northwest’s commitment to building a more inclusive and responsive cultural space. We strongly encourage artists from historically underrepresented and underinvited communities to apply.
