We're soooo excited! The platters and silent auction items are starting to come in.

Here's one by Ashley J. Long that arrived all the way from Los Angeles by way of San Diego! (ask Sue Rose for the whole madcap story :-))

Ashley is a storyboard artist on the popular Fox animated shows, “American Dad” and “Family Guy”. Originally from Illinois, Ashley has a BFA in traditional animation and digital media and has worked on “The Simpsons,” “King of the Hill” and “The Cleveland Show.”
Reilly Jensen is a painter and an old truck enthusiast. She grew up in the small farm town of Kansas and attended art school at KU in the 1970's, which explains a lot. Reilly's work is represented by Friesen Gallery in downtown Seattle and Sun Valley, Idaho. She paints machines -- both real and imaginary. It may just be possible we've hooked Reilly on ceramics by introducing her to the ceramic pencil. This is a closeup of her platter illustration.

Patti2spacePatt1
According to the University of Washington Alumni Magazine, Patti Warashina is one of the reasons the UW’s ceramics program is ranked among the top five in the nation. Patti, who taught at UW for 25 years, makes work that is humorous and whimsical, but also politically minded and often satirical. Her work can be found in such major museums as the Smithsonian, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Seattle Art Museum and the National Museum

Dick & Cappy
Celebrated glass artists, Dick Weiss and Cappy Thompson are two of PNW’s most favorite people in the world. Dick has commissions from Sitka, Alaska to Redding, Cailfornia and Corning, New York to Shanghai, China. Cappy’s medieval inspired stained and painted glass works can be found in many Seattle public spaces including Sea-Tac International Airport, Mountlake Terrace Library, Seattle Public Utilities Department and Swedish Medical Center. Both Dick and Cappy are inspiring teachers and big supporters of PNW, especially the residents’ program. It’s always a fun time when Dick and Cappy are in the studio. http://cappythompson.com
Julie Milazzo
Julie Milazzo, Wally’s first favorite resident, was among the first group of artists-in residence at Pottery Northwest. A small dynamo with a huge personality. Her words “you can put me up front, I like to greet people” clinched her application to the program. Julie has worked in both stoneware and porcelain and lit up the soda kiln with splashes of yellow and red during her residency. Her Chic series will ruffle the feathers of some, and soothe others. Practically her last act in Seattle, before moving to D.C. the next morning, was to paint a platter for us. We’ll miss her and look forward to her return visits.

George
George Rodriguez, Wally’s favorite resident, received a BFA from the University of Texas and an MFA from the University of Washington. A 2010 Bonderman Travel Fellowship took George across 26 countries in 8 months allowing him to investigate further his interest in culture, ritual, fashion and architecture. In addition to the Bonderman Travel Fellowship, George has received a number of awards, fellowships and scholarships for his work, which appears whimsical and humorous, yet deals with the serious nature of decoration as self-expression.

Rustam Usmanov, and his son Damir - live and work in Rishtan, Uzbekistan, the historic center for ceramic art in the Fergana Valley. The small city of Rishtan is home to over 1000 potters among whom Rustam is one of the Masters. Rustam's work combines a deep knowledge of local traditions along with innovations and inspirations from nature and local life. His works are displayed in the State Museum of Art of Uzbekistan, The State Hermitage and Museum of Ethnography of St.Peterburg, Russia and the Museum of Arts of Peoples of the Orient in Moscow.
A 2010 Neddy Artist Fellow Nominee (in painting), Joey Veltkamp’s seemingly autobiographical artwork asks the question: “How can we transform the detritus (both physical and emotional) of our daily lives into art?” His blog, http://www.joeyveltkamp.blogspot.com/ is the go to blog for the Seattle art scene. If Joey mentions it, it’s worth seeing. http://www.72clouds.com

Jaimex de da TorreEinar de la Torre
Jamex and Einar de la Torre are sculptors who primarily work in glass. Based on their Mexican-American bi-cultural experiences, their work is a combination of critical thinking, glass, found objects, and mixed media and can be found in the collections of the Arizona State University Art Museum, Kanazu Museum of Art, and the San Diego Museum of Art. http://www.delatorrebros.com
Deborah Schwartzkopof
Wally’s favorite resident, Deborah Schwartzkopf has just about completed her residency at PNW. We will miss her gorgeous, sensual and inspiring pots as much as her effortlessly cheerful demeanor. Deb received her BFA from the University of Alaska and completed her MFA at Penn State University. Her work, both architectural and organic, has garnered many awards, fellowships and scholarships. http://www.debspottery.com

Marge Levy
Marge Levy has been working in clay since childhood. She has been a professor of ceramics and fine arts at Purdue University and the University of Michigan. She was Executive Director of Pilchuck Glass School. She is past president and fellow of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts and will lead the NCECA SEATTLE 2012 host committee. Pottery Northwest is extremely fortunate to have Marge as a champion. Her experience and dedication has helped take the Salad Bowl to another level.
Reilly Jensen
A much lauded ceramic and glass artist, Ann Gardner is responsible for instigating the signature mosaic adorning the doorway of Pottery Northwest. Of “Convergence,” a recent commission located in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood, Mosaic Art Now wrote: “Once again, Gardner's simple, elegant sculptural forms married with painstakingly created mosaics has created something quite magnificent.” http://www.anngardner.net

One of Wally's favorite residents, Natsue Makino grew up in Fukui, Japan and received a BFA in Ceramics from the University of Washington in 2009. Her expressive figures combined with symbols, both literal and metaphorical, reveal Natsue’s fascination with the complications and contradictions of human nature. In addition to making beautiful and thought provoking work, Natsue is a kick-ass badminton player, who helped clinch PNW’s win in the Badminton Tournament Royale at On the Boards.
An Idaho native, Jason Walker received a BFA from Utah State University and a MFA from Penn State University. While an Archie Bray resident he received the Taunt Fellowship award. He has work in major collections such as the Fine Art Museum of San Francisco: De Young and the Carnegie Mellon Museum in Pittsburgh and was included in the Bellevue Arts Museum’s exhibition “BAM Biennial 2010: Clay Throwdown.” He has shown and lectured internationally and is currently represented by the Ferrin Gallery. Jason works as a studio artist in Bellingham, Washington and has very cool yellow hair. http://jasonwalkerceramics.com
