My most recent body of work combines costume, armor, and whimsy with a hint of the impractical and futile. These helmets imply action or participation but also allude to a possible situation. However, when would this armor actually be necessary?
I received my MFA from Cranbrook, and have explored installation, video, and site-specific work, but have always made ceramic art because through it all, I love the history ceramics has with healing, protection, and the body.
My goal is to achieve a balance between the known and the unknown, to combine both the mundane and the strange with a little bit of humor. Whatever the material, my work always has an element of absence and mystery, hinting at a larger question without providing an answer.
