My work is based upon a closer visual, and more tactile examination of the clay in its unmasked state. My primary intention for certain firing processes is to record a firing history of the flame patterns as they interact with the clay body surface. The flashing and colorations are a result of volatile gases and elements released through the combustion of organics (i.e. wood, gas and/or soda) creating isolated atmospheric conditions of oxidation and reduction as it interacts with iron-bearing clay bodies.

Historical references derived from both traditional and contemporary trends establish the foundation of my work. It is my goal as an artist not to suppress ideas and forms that have already been conceived, but use and treat them as generous gifts from artistic predecessors. It is my belief that in order to perpetuate creative thought, art's past must be employed into the work of the present and future. However, this equation is not balanced without the artist's originality. My artistic style has evolved from morphological changes that have adapted to time-generated initiatives. The endless investigation and research of art's history is the inspiration that allows me to continue and enjoy the creative process.
