Beth Cavener Stichter

Beth Cavener Stichter is the first Jean Griffith Fellowship recipient. She has also received an Emerging Artist Grant from the American Craft Council, and the Virginia A. Groot Foundation Award for sculpture. Beth is one of the brightest stars in American ceramics today. Her solo exhibition "A Modest Proposal" opened at Garth Clark Gallery on November 7th. Beth made Pottery Northwest her studio during September and October of 2006.

After being one of the presenting artists with the Gang of Eight for the 40th celebration, Beth quickly settled into the studio at PNW. A formidable talent with an equally engaging personality, her presence in the studio was all one could hope for. With the decision to pursue another major work for her one-person show at Garth Clark Gallery, New York, Beth’s stay became one of increasing intensity.

It was enriching, demanding, honest. She gave a slide talk for the University of Washington’s Ceramics Department, made every effort to interact with anyone who was interested, and far from being something that was observed, Beth’s residency was something in which many people were participants.
